As a seasoned photographer specialising in lifestyle product photography, I bring over a decade of experience to the table, having worked with a diverse range of brands, both large and small business owners all aiming to enhance their online presence and marketing materials. What happens on the day of the shoot?
On the scheduled day of the photoshoot, I arrive at the chosen location, typically in the morning when the daylight is most favourable for capturing the true beauty of your products. While sunrise or sunset might seem like an appealing time for photography, the natural light during these times can often cast shadows that may detract from the visual appeal of your items in their staged settings.
Upon my arrival, if you are joining me on the day of the shoot, we’ll have a detailed discussion about the day’s objectives and your expectations for the shoot. This conversation is crucial as it helps align our visions, so that every image I provide represents your brand’s identity. After this, I will conduct a thorough walk-through of the location, identifying the best spaces and setups for our lifestyle scenes.
If you are bringing the items, they should already be on-site, along with any props or additional items we’ve agreed upon to enhance the setting and create the right mood. While the environment will have been prepared beforehand, I may suggest adjustments in the placement of products or props to optimise the composition and aesthetic appeal of each shot.
Then, it’s time to select the ideal spots for each photo, set up the lighting, and begin the shoot. Throughout the process, I’ll shoot your products in a variety of settings and arrangements, highlighting their features and the lifestyle they embody. This includes taking detailed shots that accentuate their specific qualities, from their design to how they fit into everyday life. If we’ve planned for it, I’ll also shoot any additional content, such as close-up detail shots or specific scenes that tell a more in-depth story about your brand.
A typical photoshoot will last between 2 – 4 hours, but this may vary depending on the complexity and number of items we’re shooting. A full day shoot may be more suitable if you have a large number of products. Once the photography is complete, we’ll review the raw images together to really make sure they meet your expectations and discuss any additional shots you may want. If you are not present on the day, I will send the raw images to you for your approval. You will then choose your favourite shots from the selection and these will be the final images.
Over the next 24 hours, I’ll retouch the photos to bring out their best qualities. This process can involve adjusting lighting, colour balance, and composition. If needed, we can also include additional Photoshop work, such as replacing skies or removing any unwanted shine, reflections, blemishes, to ensure the final images are flawless. I can also add certain elements such as lighting effects.
After editing, I’ll deliver the final images to you via email in the format you’ve requested. This typically includes both high-resolution images for print purposes and slightly lower-resolution versions for your website, social media, and other digital platforms. You’ll receive a diverse selection of photos, providing ample choice for your marketing needs.
Unless additional services were requested, you can expect to be able to download the final, edited images within 48 hours after the shoot.
